Opera for Peace Academy – Europe: 15 – 25 April 2024 in Rome, Italy and Paris, France.
 

Spend 12 days in Rome and Paris working with Opera for Peace to launch your career as a Citizen Artist with a global perspective! Have the opportunity to work with acclaimed artists such as René Barbera, Lawrence Brownlee, Rosetta Cucchi, Etienne Dupuis, Thomas Hampson, Brian Jagde, Sumi Jo, Kamal Khan, and Damiano Michieletto.
 
Opera for Peace Academy – Europe 2024 is a one-of-a-kind, full scholarship program offering 12 emerging artists and one répétiteur apprentice the opportunity to find and develop their unique artistic identity. We want to support you in your journey to becoming a self-sustainable professional who then becomes a social entrepreneur and ambassador for peace and collaboration.
 
No fee to apply & no age limit! Applicants should be in the early, emerging stages of professional development.
 
Opera for Peace subsidizes all artists’ travel, accommodation and living costs for the duration of the programme, thanks to the generous support of the EIB, partners, and private donors.
 
Activities
– Individual training: Top vocal, repertoire and movement training from leading coaches: Florence Boissolle (Opéra National de Paris), Francesco Antonio Castaldo (AIMART), Kamal Khan (Conductor and OfP Artistic & Musical Director), Carmen Santoro (Artistic Director – Belcanto Opera Festival Japan), Sergio La Stella (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma), Sabrina Trojse (Voci in Barcaccia, Masterclass Ischia) and stage director Rosetta Cucchi (Wexford Festival Opera).
– Group Masterclasses with Lawrence Brownlee (tenor & OfP Ambassador), Etienne Dupuis (baritone & OfP Ambassador), Thomas Hampson (baritone & OfP Advisor), Brian Jagde (tenor & OfP Ambassador), Sumi Jo (soprano & OfP Advisor), and Kamal Khan (OfP Artistic Director).
 
Performance & Event Opportunities
– Perform in concert at prestigious venues in both Rome: the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici, and Paris: Musée Guimet
– Cultural conferences in partnership with LUISS University in Rome and Sciences Po in Paris

– Peacebuilding: How to integrate peacebuilding into your career as a Citizen Artist, led by Serge Stroobants, Europe and MENA director of the Institute for Economics & Peace

– Artistic Identity online workshop post-Academy with Julia Lagahuzère, General

Artist Selection Process and Criteria
We are committed to a transparent selection process which will be presided over by a diverse committee of Opera for Peace members, as well as other industry colleagues known for working towards diversity, equity and inclusion.
 
The online application process will require all applicants to send their biography / CV, list of repertoire, a cover letter or introductory video, and three video or audio links.
 
Program participants will be selected and invited for an interview based on musicality, communication talents, technique, vocal timbre, musical and vocal preparation, as well as a strong motivation to be part of our Opera for Peace mission.
 
Artists should be in the early, emerging stages of professional development.
 
Application timeline:
Deadline for application submissions – 2nd January 2024
Shortlisted interviews – week commencing 15th January 2024
Final decision communicated – week commencing 22nd January 2024
