Opera for Peace Academy 2023 & our Strategic Partnerships

25th May 2023

At Opera for Peace we strive to create cultural leaders who will make an impact which extends beyond the world of opera. This is why we are proud of the collaborations with our various partners who help to shape the Opera for Peace Academies, to promote and further develop positive personal values based on humanity and mutual respect. At this year’s Academy in Paris, we notably collaborated with Sciences Po, Institute for Economics & Peace, and Spencer Stuart.
On April 13 Sciences Po hosted the roundtable of Circular Culture entitled “MAKE OTHER VOICES HEARD IN OUR WORLD: OPERA FOR PEACE AT SCIENCES PO” (“FAIRE ENTENDRE D’AUTRES VOIX DANS NOTRE MONDE : OPERA FOR PEACE À SCIENCES PO”). The conference brought together Opera for Peace General Director Julia Lagahuzère, and 2 of our artists: Iranian soprano Forooz Razavi and Ukrainian baritone Ihor Mostovoi, alongside notable political scientists like Frédéric Ramel (University professor at Sciences Po and researcher at CERI) and Aghiad Ghanem (Doctor in Political Science, CERI, etc), as well as industry professionals Christophe Alix (Press & Communication Officer, European Investment Bank), and Jean-Philippe Thiellay (President of the National Center of Music). The roundtable was a chance to share ideas on the importance of opera – and more broadly – music in our contemporary world. Several themes were discussed: culture as a vector of sustainable development in the context of the Anthropocene; opera as a tool for dialogue and source of artistic creation in – but also beyond – the West; the place of musicians in a society when it goes through armed conflict.
We had the great pleasure of welcoming back Serge Stroobants from the Institute for Economics & Peace to the OfP Academy Paris 2023 with a workshop on Peace Building. Prior to the Academy, our Artists were asked to take an online course on Positive Peace and to also to design a social project that they could conduct in their own communities based on the Positive Peace principals and triggering most of the eight pillars of Positive Peace, which they would then present to their fellow Artists. It was a wonderful opportunity to introduce the varied, scientific work of the Institute for Economics & Peace to our Artists, as well as have a lively discussion on what “peace” means for them personally.
Spencer Stuart is a global leader in executive search, board and leadership consulting, advising organizations around the world for more than 65 years. They believe that leadership decisions are critical to get right, yet are deeply personal for those involved, because these decisions affect the performance and reputations of organizations, the well-being and careers of employees and the expectations of their broader stakeholders. We at Opera for Peace believe that our Artists are the leaders of the future, which is why it is crucial for them to foster good leadership skills. The team of Spencer Stuart, led by Mariano Gilardon, did an extensive workshop with our Artists as part of the Opera for Peace Academy Paris 2023 so that they could get to know their unique leadership characteristics and how to implement them in the most effective way.
We thank all our partners that collaborated with us this year for enriching the minds of our Artists and for making the Opera for Peace Academy 2023 such a great success!
