2023 Arts and Cultural Affairs Awards, South Africa
28th September 2023Congratulations to our Opera for Peace Emerging Citizen Artist Xolane Marman, stage director & producer, for winning the 2023 Arts and Cultural Affairs Awards in South Africa for his creation of SA Operatunity.
SA Operatunity is a unique brand, one-of-a-kind in the world of music. It is characterized by the unique format of the event, variety of operatic stylistics and performing features of singers and instrumentalists from different parts of South Africa, openness to the new, the intrigue of contest, combination of entertainment and high artistic level of participants’ performance.
The essential difference of this brand from other music projects is an absolutely new format: it opens opportunities to young and potential musicians that would like to pursue music at tertiary level. The brand also will be a gate way to enhance teaching skills of those at tertiary level, through community master classes, for choirs and schools. This brand also opens great educational platform and practice opportunities to the communities at large.
Last year Opera for Peace collaborated with our partner OperaVision financed by Creative Europe creating a four-part series focusing on the raw, unfiltered stories of young opera artists from different backgrounds in South Africa. The series tackles the real issues faced by young artists preparing to perform on the world’s opera stages.
