Yolisa Ngwexana

Soprano

Yolisa Ngwexana is a soprano hailing from South Africa. She graduated with a Diploma in music with Distinction in 2022 and received the NWU Prestigious award as a top achiever. She also performed Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with the Free State Symphony Orchestra at St Andrew and St Michael’s Cathedral in Bloemfontein, South Africa. In May 2022 she was part of the Opera for Peace Academy in Rome, Italy, where she took part in masterclasses with Baritone Thomas Hampson and Tenor Lawrance Brownlee.
 
In 2022 she covered the role of Gilda with Opera North in Leeds, United Kingdom and performed two shows of the role at Theatro Royal, Newcastle, UK. Ms Ngwexana is currently a Guildhall Artist Masters-Performance student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the guidance of Professor Yvonne Kenny. She was one of the 5 finalists in the Voices of Black Opera competition (VOBO) 2022, which took place at Birmingham Town Hall in November 2022. Recently, Yolisa was a soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass with the Brixton Chamber Orchestra at St Mildred’s Parish church, Croydon, United Kingdom.
 
Yolisa Ngwexana is a graduate from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) with a Diploma in Biotechnology. She was the finalist in The Voices of South Africa Opera Singing Competition and the Mimi Coertse Scholarship Competition in 2019.
